Jordanlw wrote:How do I encode movies to H.264 codec?
I'm going to explain how to encode movies with MeGUI,
First your going to need a good source for your movie your wanting to encode,
Anything in the 700Mb xViD encoded range should be good (aXXo is a good source).
First your going to need to download MeGUI its self the download page is,
- Code:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/megui
Make sure you get the most upto date version available.
Install MeGUI run it and get it fully updated.
Then your going to need to download AviSynth,
- Code:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=57023
Get the latest stable release available.
Install AviSynth, Then your going to need Nero AAC (Audio Codec) its excellent for compression,
Thats available at,
- Code:
http://www.nero.com/eng/nero-aac-codec.html
Install Nero ACC executable files in the MeGUI folder which is,(If installed in the default location)
- Code:
#:\Program Files\megui
Restart your PC,
Start up MeGUI once its loaded press "CTRL+R", That will open "AVISynth Script Creator"
1. Select the source movie you want to encode.
2. Make sure "Resize" Is UNTICKED.
3. Click save and save the script.
----------------------
1. The AVS file you just made should already be selected if not then select it.
2. If the OUTPUT of the encoded file isn't pre defined define it now.
3. Make sure the Codec is set at "x264"
4. Make sure "MKV" is selected as the file container.
5. Select "HQ-Slower" as the video profile.
6. Select the original video source as the audio input.
7. If the audio output isn't yet defined define it now.
8. Select "NDAAC-HE-64Kbps" as the audio profile it provides perfect compression to bitrate ratio.
9. Select "ND AAC" as the codec
10. Select "MP4-AAC" as the audio extension.
11. Press "AutoEncode.
---------------------
1. Select the container as "MKV"
2. Define your desired output of the encoded movie
3. Make sure the file size radio button is selected, And define the file size as 300MB or 400MB depending
on the length of the movie (Try to get the bitrate at 450ish)
4. Select "Queue"
5. Go to the Queue tab once your back on the main MeGUI page and select "Start down the bottum, It will ask
if you want to create a worker, Create one.
--------------------
How do I take sample screenshots?
Download WMP classic
- Code:
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_players/media_player_classic.cfm
Once you download it, Run it and open your encoded movie, Go to "File", "Save Thumbnail",
That will give you some great thumbnails to use for examples to downloaders.
-------------------
How do I create a sample?
Go to this directory,
- Code:
#:\Program Files\megui\tools\mkvmerge
Start "mmg.exe",
On the input tab select your movie as the "input file",
Go to the "Global" tab enable the "Enable Splitting" tickbox,
Select "After this duration" and enter "60s" (For 1 minute),
Then down the bottum at "Output FileName", Select what you want the output to be.
Select "Start Muxing".
After a few samples created abort the process and select your favourite.
------------------
TIPS:
Always use something non sus for the file name when uploading to RapidShare,
For example "PC-BACKUP-1/5/08" etc etc
HDRIPS, DVDRIPS & R5/DVDSCR RIPS EXPLAINED:
-HDRips: These look exactly and in some cases better than 700MB XViD rips (I.E. aXXo or DiAMOND). Most of the HDRips posted at the moment look much better than an XViD rip.
-DVDRips: These tend have a lower quality than HDRips as the source is not High Definition, but they do manage to look identical to the 700MB XViD but the quality is slightly lower than what you would see in an XViD release.
-R5/DVDSCR/WORKPRINT Rips: These rips are essentially reencoded using the R5/DVDSCR release as the source, as such the quality is slightly lower than the original release but yet looks kickass for the size. I normally tend to mention if the outcome looks bad or if the source is of bad quality.
300MB MOVIES Vs XViD 700MB RIPS
I AM LEGEND:
GOOD LUCK CHUCK:
You get a quality which is identically the same to the XViD rips for LESS THAN HALF THE SIZE.

FAQ - FREQUENT ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q1: HOW DO I PLAY THESE FILES?
The Matroska (MKV/MKA) format is quite new. So don't be shocked at seeing this format in use. If you have your basic set of codecs to play the standard .avi files then playing .mkv files is no different. If you still have no clue then keep reading:
- First off you'll need some codecs that will allow your computer to understand what its dealing with. There are two popular packs available on the internet. "K-Lite Codec Pack" OR "Combined Community Codec Pack".
- After you've installed any ONE of those, you should already be able to play .mkv files in Windows Media Player. But if you want added features such as subtitles, chapters etc then I'd recommend using third party players such as GOM PLAYER.
STAY AWAY FROM "VLC PLAYER". THE PLAYER SUFERS FROM A LOSS IN FRAMES EVERY FEW SECONDS IN SOME OF THESE RIPS ON TOP OF THIS YOU WON'T EXPERIENCE THE BEST QUALITY.
Q2: WHAT SOFTWARE DO YOU USE TO ENCODE?
Its a free software known as "MeGUI" which is essentially your one stop solution for x264 encoding. Its a free tool and can be found by doing a simple google.
Q3: I'M GETTING THE GREEN LINE THING. IS THERE A FIX?
The problem can occur due to either a problem with your codecs, the player, or if you have more than one codec pack installed.
What you have to do is, uninstall all the codec packs and players from your computer and install only one universal codec pack. K-Lite or CCCP should do the trick, do not install more than one pack. If it still doesn't work, try switching your player. I.E. Switch over to GOM Player or try Windows Media Player.

HOW DO I PLAY THESE ON A STANDARD DVD PLAYER?
NOTE: IF YOU'RE HAVING AUDIO SYNC PROBLEMS THEN MOVE FORWARD TO THE OTHER TWO METHODS.
You will need to download "VSO ConvertXtoDVD 3.0.0.1", which can be done from the link below:
- Code:
http://rapidshare.com/files/97991506/VSOCXDVD3000.rar
PASS: adzapper@warez-bb.org
-A more updated version of the tool can be found on WBB using the search function above-
LATEST VERSION HERE:
- Code:
http://rapidshare.com/files/121145928/vso_convertxtodvd_v3.1.0.24.zip
CONFIGURING THE SOFTWARE:
-Go to "Settings" and then "General". Select the folder you want the temp files to be in (make sure the partition has plenty of space). Check the remaining 4 options depending on your preference.
-Move on to "Chapters". 5MINS is a decent length, but you can change it if you like. Uncheck "for videos longer than".
-Next, "TV Format". Select your TV format and leave the rest as it is.
-Now go on to "Encoding". Leave encoding quality on High. Select the type of disk you will be using, for the last one it is best to leave it as it is.
-Now for the "Audio". I would prefer having the bar somewhere in the middle, don't check "Audio Boost".
-Finally the "Burning". Uncheck the third option. For the speed I'd select somewhere from 8x - 12x. Remember, the slower the better and never use the max speed.
....and you're done.
Rest of it is very straight forward and easy to use, so there is not much explaining to be done there. If you still have any problems then feel free to PM me.

ORBartmanX wrote:ok, so ive finally...finally figured out how to fix the sync issues! this 100% works lol, ive tested twice
heres what you do:
- Code:
1. Download Tmpgenc Xpress from http://rapidshare.com/files/93711152/TMPGEnc.XPress.v4.4.2.238.Incl.Keygen.and.Patch-HAZE.rar [courtesy of Ungerecht]
2. Install, Patch it (follow the nfo incl.)
3. Convert the adzapper .mkv to mpeg2 (nicer file to convert to dvd) by clicking new project > add file > select your .mkv (click show all files) > when clip properties comes up adjust screen settings to your preferences, 16:9 etc....
4. Click Ok.
5. Click Format
6. Dvd Standard Mpeg File > choose appropriate video settings, pal etc. keep it on cbr and mpeg 1 audio layer II > click select
7. Encoder bitrate settings pops up, leave untouched and click ok. > then click encode up the top > then click start at the bottom left (film icon) and wait (took my laptop 35mins to encode, im running a core 2 duo with 3gb ram - so prob take most people 35 - 45mins.
8. This program gives you a roughly 4.2gb mpeg file.
9. next download Tmpgenc Dvd Author 3 from here: http://rapidshare.com/files/79280906/Pegasys.TMPGEnc.DVD.Author.With.DivX.Authoring.v3.1.1.174_by_shanu.rar [courtest of deen4533]
10. install and patch etc. (follow nfo again)
11. open Tmpgenc Dvd Author 3 > click start new program (ensure pal or ntsc settings are on dvd mode) > add file > select the mpeg you just made > click ok when click properties comes up > click menu > select no menu (easier, faster to ignore them) > click next > click ok.
12. click simulation and here you can see your file, you can play it also
13. click output up the top > select folder you want it to go to > select appropriate target size (usually 4.7gb dvd)
14. then click start output (process will take around 10-15mins) to convert to dvd files
15. then burn urself with your own program at a slow burn speed, or with the writing tool with tmpgenc (around 4x or 6x, but never max speed!)
16. now you should have a nicely synced dvd, courtesy of adzapper's brilliant mkv files!!!!!!!!
This should work for all you guys who have sync issues with convertxtodvd. These two programs are higher grade encoders which automatically detect sync iissues and auto-correct them. So you shouldnt end up with out of sync dvds when using these two programs. But, thats not to say Convertx is bad, cos it definitely is not - probably one of the best encoders out there - along with these two of course!
enjoy.
and thanks adzapper for the latest flicks
Thanks to BartmanX for writing it up.

I WANT TO PUT THIS ONTO MY PSP, iPOD, CELL PHONE. HOW DO I DO SO?
First off, you will have to download "Combined Community Codec Pack", it is not necessary if you have all the codecs needed to play .mkv files.
- Code:
http://rapidshare.com/files/88989850/CCCPFREE.rar
Second, you will have to download "Allok 3GP PSP MP4 iPod Video Converter". I have tested this software myself, its a handy little tool which performs very well and is extremely user friendly, so this is what I recommend.
- Code:

HOW DO I CONVERT THEM INTO .AVI FILES (FOR DivX SUPPORTED DVD PLAYERS)?
Download "alltoavi" from here:
- Code:
http://alltoavi.sourceforge.net/
....and follow this simple tutorial.
- Code:
http://jcafe.vnmanga.com/index.php/topic,1636.0.html
IF YOU WANT TO WATCH THESE ON A DVD PLAYER THEN USE THE FIRST METHOD POSTED (CONVERTXTODVD). ALSO IF YOU WISH TO KEEP THEM IN YOUR COMPUTER THEN DON'T BOTHER ENCODING SINCE MKV IS THE BEST FORMAT. JUST INSTALL THE REQUIRED CODECS AND YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO PLAY ALL THESE CLIPS JUST LIKE A STANDARD XVID CLIP.
